Dr. A.K. Krishnakumar

 

Executive Director of IL&FS Cluster Development Initiative Ltd.

Dr. A.K. Krishna Kumar, a PhD from IIT Khargpur, is currently holding the position of Executive Director of IL&FS Cluster Development Initiative Ltd. In this capacity he is heading the cluster infrastructure group which is involved in several prestigious infrastructure projects such as industrial parks covering sectors viz textile, leather, engineering, pharma, electronics, plastics, rubber, bamboo, food processing etc. The Company is involved in the establishment of about 60 industrial parks in the country and in Africa and is associated with about 130 industrial clusters in the country. He is also heading the operations of the company in Agri and rural business, livelihoods, area development, tourism and Africa initiatives. Under his guidance the company has designed and implemented skill develop programmes for up gradation of skills particularly in agriculture sector. He also headed the team which worked on Growth Pole and PURA projects. During his current tenure in IL&FS he is working with several Ministries of the Govt of India in assisting them in formulating policies and also headed the team which worked on a few projects funded by multilateral and bilateral organisations.
Prior to joining IL&FS on deputation in 2006, he was the  Rubber Production Commissioner and Ex Officio member of the Rubber Board (Ministry of Commerce and Industry Govt of India) a position which he held for 11 years from 1995 to 2006.During his tenure as Joint Rubber production Commissioner in Tripura he has conceptualized and implemented one of the most successful projects for the rehabilitation of tribals in the country and this has contributed substantially to the large scale development of rubber plantations in the North East and non traditional areas in the country which resulted in significant socio economic upliftment.
He has served on several committees of the Govt of India (Planning Commission) state governments, Universities and industry bodies, ICAR and International organizations.
