John Baffes is a Senior Economist with the Development Prospects Group. His responsibilities include commodity market monitoring and price projections for tropical commodities (including natural rubber) as well as research on market structure and policy reform issues both in developing and OECD countries. Since joining the World Bank Group in 1993, he has worked in several operation departments, including Mexico and Bangladesh. John has a BS degree in Economics from the University of Athens (1983), an MSc degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Georgia (1986), and a PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of Maryland (1992). He has published over 30 articles in various academic journals (including the American Journal of Agricultural Economics, the Journal of Development Economics, and the Journal of Policy Reform), and numerous chapters in books and other reports in the areas of economic development and agricultural economics. He contributes frequently to several internal and external publications.
